The Hohe Tauern Bike Trail is one of the most exciting mountain biking experiences in SalzburgerLand. Over 14 stages, this official multi-day route leads through the Hohe Tauern National Park region, combining impressive natural scenery, scenic valleys and sporting challenges into a very special bike adventure. The route runs from Hüttschlag in Grossarltal to the Krimml Waterfalls and is suitable for ambitious mountain bikers as well as e-bikers.
Anyone looking for an alpine nature experience on two wheels will discover rustic mountain huts, idyllic national park valleys and impressive views of Austria’s highest peaks along the trail. The Hohe Tauern Bike Trail mainly follows forest roads, alpine paths, cycle routes and side roads. The ideal season for a tour is from mid-May to mid-October.
Stage 1: Hüttschlag – Grossarltal – Bad Gastein
Your start on the Hohe Tauern Bike Trail
For guests staying in Grossarltal, Stage 1 of the Hohe Tauern Bike Trail is especially important. It marks the beginning of the entire route and leads from Hüttschlag in Grossarltal to Bad Gastein. This makes Grossarltal the ideal starting point for anyone who wants to experience the trail right from the beginning.
Stage 1, Hüttschlag – Grossarltal – Bad Gastein, covers 55 km and includes 666 metres of ascent and 1,583 metres of descent. One special highlight is the ascent on the Grossarltal panoramic cable car, followed by a long and varied descent into the Gasteinertal along alpine roads. Please note the 22 kg weight limit for bike transport on the Grossarltal panoramic cable car.
As the starting point of the first stage, Grossarltal offers ideal conditions for a successful start to the Hohe Tauern Bike Trail, with impressive nature, magnificent views and varied route sections.
