Bike & Hike
from hut to mountain
In Grossarltal, you get to ride on marked trails of varying difficulty with your mountain bike or e-mountain bike. Most trails lead you by bike up to mountain huts. At that point, you have countless great options for hikes to the high peaks or alpine tarns.
Bike & Hike touring tips
From the center of Grossarl, ride about 3 km into the Ellmautal and turn right at the entrance to Hotel Lammwirt towards the Bichlalm. Passing several farms, continue on the forest road. After the climb, enjoy the magnificent view as you approach the Bichlalm. From here, hike about 40 minutes up to the Remsteinkopf.
This bike tour starts in the Neuhof part of Hüttschlag. Just before the tunnel, ride up the switchbacks on the Hinterfeld supply road. From there, the forest road leads mostly through woods. Pass the Tofern chapel and after more bends, you will finally reach the Harbachalm. Start the challenging hike from there. After about 2.5 hours, you will summit the Gamskarkogel and reach the Gamskarkogel hut.
Follow the Sonneggweg path by mountain bike for about 2.8 km before turning right onto the forest road leading to the Saukaralm. After the strenuous ascent, enjoy breathtaking views at the Saukaralm. The hike leads through a flowery alpine meadow to the Saukarkopf.
Bike & Climb
Climbing enthusiasts can also ascend the Saukarkopf via the "Bella Cascinaia" via ferrata on the west face.
Start this mountain bike tour to the Aualm in the small community of Unterberg. Right next to the Hotel Johanneshof, you’ll bike up past the Lainholz and Pointgrün farms to the Aualm. After about a 1.5-hour hike, you will reach the impressive summit of the Schuhflicker.
