Hikes with strollers
Families with small children are well-catered for in the Valley of Mountain Huts. Grossarltal boasts numerous hiking trails that are suitable for pushing strollers.
Most of the tours lead you along a gravel pathway to a staffed mountain hut. A basic level of fitness is required for such hikes, as you will have to make an elevation gain in order to reach the hut. But the effort is most definitely worth the effort.
If you choose the path to the Aigenalmen, you will actually be taking aim at two huts. The Aigenalm-Paulhütte (elev. 1,280 m) and the Aigenalm-Mandlhütte (elev. 1,342 m) are both accessible with a stroller. Start the tour directly from the village of Grossarl. The path first leads along the promenade next to the river, before beginning the climb up to the Aigenalmen. Once you get there, you will be greeted by a magical expanse of alpine pastures and two quaint huts with a charm all their own.
Tip: Your kids are sure to enjoy the playground and the petting animals. A special highlight: the Kaiserschmarrn-style pancakes served at the Aigenalm-Paulhütte.
A delightful, leisurely stroll with your stroller leads from the picturesque valley head of Hüttschlag to the Ötzlsee. This crystal-clear lake, located in the midst of Hohe Tauern National Park, offers almost unparalleled natural beauty.
Tip: There's also a Kneipp pool at the Ötzlsee, perfect for cooling off on hot days.
Drive or take a hiking taxi up to the Heaven’s Knot parking area. From there, it's about a half-hour walk along a forest road to reach the Mooslehenalm (1,449 m), known for a sweet dish typical of Grossarltal – blueberry “Nocken”.
Tip: If the hike to the Mooslehenalm isn't enough for you, you can continue along the forest lane as far as the Viehhausalm or Niggeltalalm (Igltalalm).
The Breitenebenalm (1,420 m) is a popular hiking destination for the whole family. You'll need to cover around 160 meters in elevation gain with your stroller in order to reach your destination. At the top, children find a big playground with petting animals, while their parents can relax in the meantime sitting out on the spacious sun terrace.
Tip: You can also reach the Breitenebenalm with your own car.
