Snowmaking Machines

Snowmaking by night
Even if beautiful white snow isn’t dropping “in buckets” from the heavens, the Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski area is still well prepared. In fact, around 90 % of all pistes have snowmaking capability as needed.

Pure water-air-mixture, without any kinds of additives, is forced under pressure out into the sub-freezing air. The water crystalizes immediately and turns into snow.

The water used in snow production comes from various springs and mountain streams close to the pistes themselves. Incidentally: that water is actually pure enough to drink!

In order to guarantee you the very best snow and piste conditions, the following snowmaking equipment is available as needed in the Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski area:

  • 234 propeller snowmakers
  • 88 snow lances
  • 4 ponds with a total volume of 194,000 m3
  • 2 water towers

The energy needed for snowmaking is produced by the Grossarl Lift Company’s own small hydroelectric plant. This guarantees we always treat nature cautiously.
