Rhododendron Weeks in the Valley of Mountain Huts from 10 June to 1 July 2023

Hikes take a break at the Paarseen

In early summer, Grossarltal shows us its most beautiful face: The last patches of snow on the mountains are melting away, the sun finally drives away the last stubborn vestiges of the recent winter.

The flora reawakens. First, the twinflowers and crocuses come into bloom, their heads even poking cheekily into the sunlight through the last flecks of snow cover. They are soon followed by gentian and Arctic violets. Finally, as of mid-June, rhododendron transform the high meadows into a carpet of pink.

Experience for yourself the rebirth of nature during Rhododendron Weeks from mid-June to beginning of July in Grossarltal, all the while enjoying the delightful play of color during early summer.

It is also in this time that the farmers in our Valley of Huts again open the doors of their huts. The cowherds and dairymaids have long been longing for this day, when they can finally turn their backs on the valley and move into their summer homes amid alpine pastures. And then, if not earlier, the hikers are also drawn back to our local hills and mountains.

Our guided alpine-flower hikes are especially popular at this time of year.

“Mountains in Flames” is probably the highlight during Rhododendron Weeks. In good weather, several hundred bonfires illuminate the peaks and ridges of the Hohe Tauern mountains – this is how Grossarltal greets the returning summer.
