Enjoyment Ski Routes The best delicacies from “over here” and “over there”
It´s all a question of perspective. Even in the ski area Grossarltal-Dorfgastein. What is “over here” for one person, is “over there” for the one on the other side of the ski area.
It doesn´t matter from which side you start your day of skiing. You can enjoy “swinging” from Grossarltal to Dorfgastein and back as often you like. From slope to slope and from hut to hut. Here are the best tips for the Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski-(enjoyment)-swing. Although one day is probably not enough to test everything, so here´s a tip for two days to discover the best culinary tips:
Day 1
Start your day right with a delicious breakfast at the mountain at the Panoramastub´n. The rich breakfast buffet and the wonderful view will delight you. Then “swing” over the Kreuzkogel to Dorfgastein and over the Fulseck back to Grossarl. Back and forth – back and forth. Time for a break.
Enjoy a tasty Alm-Burger with meat from the local farm and some crisp side dishes at the cozy Gehwolfalm in Grossarltal. The hut is located at the valley station of the Kreuzkogelbahn. Would you like a fine wine to your Burger? We would recommend one of the Ski Amadé wines.
Next stop: Wengeralm in Dorfastein – the best place to try the “Wengeralm Pfandl”. That´s beef fillet tips in mushroom sauce and potato rösti. The cattle is grazed in summer on these alpine pastures, so you have the proof for real good and local products.
Last but not least you should definitely end the day with a sweet treat. Our tip: The “Kaiserschmarren” at the Alpentaverne in Grossarl is always worth a sin!
Day 2
Small and nice – the Harbachhütte at the Kreuzkogel valley station in Grossarl is a real insider tip. There you will be served fine pasta dishes as well as Kasnock´n or a fillet steak from the farm´s own beef. Those who are looking for a vegetarian dish, will also find great offers on both sides of the Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski (enjoyment) swing. Our tip: The giant baked potato with sour cream sauce and grilled vegetables in the Panoramastub´n Grossarl.
Follow the sun: Sunlovers appreciate the Grossarl side in the morning and change sides with the course of the sun in the afternoon to Dorfgastein. On the slopes on the Grossarl-Side you can enjoy the sun from morning to early afternoon. On the side of Dorfgastein the sun shines from late morning until the end of business.
You don't have to choose a side, you can also stop in at the top. In the new restaurant WOLKE7. This is located directly on the ridge at the mountain station of the new 10-person cable car Kieserl. You can ski down here to both Großarl and Dorfgastein. But before that, you should definitely indulge yourself with light meals and regional specialties and fine wines. Our tip: The fresh WOK dishes or very classic Austrian: Tafelspitz of local beef with fried potatoes, spinach and Semmelkren, with a glass of wine.
It´s time to switch sides to Dorfgastein in the afternoon. But not just because of the sun. When hut owner Sepp from the Grabnerhütte in Dorfgastein reaches for his schnapps bottles, the guests are served find brandies. As we know – good food also includes a fine schnapps (in moderation of course). As a grand finale you can taste a traditional “Bauernkrapfen”.
