Hüttschlag – a “Mountaineering Village”
In order to be an official “Mountaineering Village”, a community must offer excellence, both in terms of its countryside and its treatment of the environment. It must also demonstrate an ongoing tradition of exemplary regional development in terms of sustainable alpine tourism.
All “Mountaineering Villages” in Austria are pioneers of their respective regions in alpinism. Conscious awareness of the need for harmony between mankind and nature is a major focus.
Hüttschlag has met the stringent criteria for “Austrian Mountaineering Villages” since 2008; a project of the Austrian Alpine Association within the framework of the International Alpine Convention. Aside from Hüttschlag, 19 other communities are also designated “Mountaineering Villages”.
