Family Trekking

Mid-June to Mid-September 2024

Family Trekking offers a 3-day hike with the entire family from hut to hut. With child-friendly daily stages and a walking time of 3 to 4 hours, youngsters from 4 years old can easily complete this hike.

There's also plenty of time to build little dams, create root houses, and playfully discover the beauty of the mountains along the way. However, this weekly package does require a bit of adventurous spirit from mom and dad. Be aware that overnight stays in alpine huts mean forgoing a few creature comforts. With careful preparation, however, nothing stands in the way of this 3-day hike with 2 overnight stays at alpine huts.

Familienwanderung zur Unterwandalm
Overnight Stay at a Hut

At mountain huts, you will forego some of the creature comforts of modern lift. However, exciting games ensure entertaining evenings inside the huts – without TV, internet, or game consoles. Your overnight stay in the mountains becomes a true adventure when the wind howls around the hut and the old beams begin to creak.

At the huts, you'll be woken up by the clanging of cowbells or by Wastl the farm dog barking outside the door.

Information about the Tours

Who are our trekking tours suitable for?

The Mini-Tour is suitable for families with children ages 4 and up. The walking time (calculated with small children in mind) is 2 to 3 hours per day. The elevation difference is between 720 and 1,012 meters.

The Maxi-Tour is suitable for families with children ages 6 and up. The daily walking time (calculated with children in mind) is 4 to 5 hours. The elevation difference ranges between 1,305 and 1,845 meters.

The hiking tour is selected according to the availability of overnight stays in the mountain pastures (the tour may differ from the examples).

Of course, the tours can be individually extended depending on your mood and physical condition. If the suggested tours, e.g., due to the huts being booked up, are not possible, we will suggest a different route with similar walking times.

Paradise: The mountain huts

Children will find their personal piece of paradise around the huts: alpine meadows, springs, small forests, and lots of animals, including pigs, cows, sheep, horses, and goats.

The hiking stages are child-friendly, so there's plenty of time to pick berries and mushrooms along the way, build houses between the tree roots, and play, rest, observe, and listen. You might hear marmots whistling and springs babbling, as eagles soar high above your head. Perhaps you'll even spot a deer or a chamois.
