Karseggalm1,603 m (1 1/4 hours)

The Karseggalm in Grossarl-Au is with its 350 - 400 years of age one of the oldest mountain hut in the valley. The easiest way to reach it is from the Breitenebenalm (approx. 1/2 hour, from the Sonnegg bridge ( 1 1/2 hours) or along the circular path from the Unterwandalm via the Karseggalm to the Breitenebenalm. Especially impressive is the open fireplace, which is still used daily. This is where the "Knetkäse" (knead cheese), a Grossarl speciality, amongst other things, is smoked. In addition, once a week there is the possibility to watch the cheese being produced (for the exact day see the events calendar). Zudem gibt es jede Woche einmal die Möglichkeit, bei der Käseherstellung zuzusehen (Termine im Veranstaltungskalender). At the Karseggalm you feel transported back a few centuries in time.
Other hiking destinations around the alm are the Kitzstein ("Gabel" fork), the Penkkopf, the Sonntagskogel, the above-mentioned mountain huts and the valley crossing to the Kleinarlerhütte.
