Gerstreitalm1,575 m (1 hour)
The newly-built Gerstreitalm lies on the "Ellmau sunny side" and offers a marvellous view down into the valley. It is a popular hiking destination whatever the weather. Young and old reach the alpine hut effortlessly from the Vorderstadluck farm along the alpine path or along the Rosenstein access road and then along the Scheiblbrand forest road (past the Heugathalm - walking time from the Heugathalm approx. 1 Stunde) through the timber forest and partly over lush alpine pasture to the hut. You can also drive up as far as the barrier. In bad weather the hikers meet in the warm snug. There the owners present their guests with home-made farm produce. Overnight accommodation for approx. 15 - 20 persons (partly in double and 3 and 4-bedded rooms, communal shower) available.
Hiking destinations: Saukaralm, Saukarkopf, Gründegg, the alms in the Ellmau Valley.
