Draugsteinalm-Steinmannhütte1,778 m (1 1/2 hours)
The Steinmannhütte, which is on the left when seen from below, is run by Kathi und Sepp (both have been up at the alm for over 40 years) with their dog, Aika. All the milk is made into butter and and sour cheese (silver medal winner at the KÄSIADE 2000) in a copper cauldron. Curd cheese spreads, fruit yoghurt and other cheese specialities as well as bacon, various sausage meats, schnaps and licqueurs are home-made on the farm and sold in their own organic farm shop as well as up at the alm. It's very comfy on the lovely terrace or around the large table in the snug, wher you can have a rest and recharge your batteried for further walks. Overnight accommodation avaialable.
Hiking destinations: Draugstein (2,356 m), Draugsteintörl, Tappenkar Lake, Karteistörl, Kreuzeck, any many more. The cattle is herded down at the end of September and there is a farm festival to celebrate with music, sale of farm produce, horse and carriage rides, etc.
