Ski Mountaineering Tours
Grossarl Valley - the Mecca for ski-tour fans
If Grossarl Valley is called the “Valley of Alpine Meadows” in summer, it can certainly be described as the “Valley of Ski Tours” in winter. Far from the hectic of the ski runs, the countless summits around the communities of Grossarl and Hüttschlag invite one to undertake numerous tours of differing lengths and degrees of difficulty!Deeply snowed slopes, glittering ice crystals and the rays of the warming sun – what could warm a tour-fan’s heart more? The Salzburg Grossarl Valley with its 12 small side valleys and the two communities of Grossarl and Hüttschlag (Hohe Tauern National Park) accommodates gigantic alpine-meadow areas and countless mountain peaks at altitudes from at least 2,000 metres to just on 3,000 metres.
****NEW**** Guided skitours for beginners and enjoyers with the Grossarl-Hüttschlag mountain assosiation - also for non-members.

The most famous skiing mountain in the valley is certainly the Kreuzkogel, the summit point of the popular Grossarl Valley-Dorfgastein Skiing Arena. The world is a great deal quieter and more modest on the surrounding mountain summits. Such as on its namesake, the “Kreuzeck”, which is one of the most popular ski-tour mountains in Hüttschlag. At just over 2,200 metres, it is as equally a popular tour destination as the Filzmooshörndl and the Loosbühel in the Grossarl Ellmau Valley throughout the winter. Late in spring one is lured by the the ski-tour mountains at the valley end, such as the Mandlkogel (2,442m) and the Keeskogel, which marks the majestic valley end as the highest mountain at 2,884m.

A popular meeting place among tour fans is the Aschaustüberl about 4km after Hüttschlag. One meets there and exchanges experiences and news and after a hearty “tour-fan soup” and snapshots that one has taken along the way on previous tours.

Guided ski tours
The local skiing schools offer expert care to inexperienced touring fans. One can naturally also hire the required equipment there, which is especially helpful for beginners who will soon be fascinated by the unique beauty of this recreation activity in untouched nature.
In cooperation with several ski-tour specialists in the valley, and the W. Mayr Cartography Publishers in Innsbruck, the Grossarl Valley Tourist Association has recently published a new ski-tour guide, which offers descriptions of 12 of the loveliest tours in the valley.
Together with detailed descriptions of the individual tours, the 32-page brochure contains photographs and 12 detailed maps and general information to the theme of ski tours and the valley.
The guide is available for € 4.50 at the Grossarl Valley Tourist Association (for € 2.50 on presentation of the guest card) and directly from the W. Mayr Publishers. There is also the suitable hiking- and “Grossarl Valley” tourist map No. 311 from the Tappeiner Publishers to a scale of 1:35.000 (€ 6.50, € 4.50 with the guest card).
