Snow reliability

90% snowmaking coverage

The ski slopes of Grossarl and Dorfgastein have taken snow reliability to the next level. Over 90% of the slopes have snowmaking capability. In 2016, the Grossarl lift company invested over €8 million in snowmaking infrastructure, doubling the output of the snowmaking system.

  • "Himmelreich" reservoir with a capacity of 70,000 m³
  • Construction of an additional pumping station with a water output of 300 liters per second
  • Installation of two transformer stations to ensure plenty of power for the snowmaking infrastructure

  • Acquisition of 52 additional high-performance snow cannons

  • 314 snow generators (254 propeller machines and 60 snow lances) deployed.
  • Snowmaking system is fully automated.
  • As needed, up to 640 liters per second can be pumped through 4 pumping stations into the snowmaking network.
  • A team of 4 to 7 employees, crack snowmaking experts, work around the clock.
  • 184,125 m³ of water stored in 7 reservoirs ensure an ample water supply, replenished from a stream within the ski area as well as the Grossarl Ache river.
