Best time of year

for your ski holiday in Austria

First things first: a ski holiday in Grossarl or Hüttschlag, nestled in the heart of Salzburg province, delivers perfect holiday experiences all winter long and is quite frankly "worth every penny." During the early and late seasons, such as a ski holiday in March or from late November to Christmas, you're ideally poised to snap up a bargain Austrian vacation based at one of numerous accommodations in the area. Plus, during these off-peak seasons, the slopes are less crowded - you'll find plenty of space for skiing and snowboarding without any lift lines to contend with. If you're planning your first ski holiday in Austria, this is definitely an added plus. No longer need to head to those pricier ski resorts over in Tyrol!

By the way, 90% of the ski area is equipped with snow cannons, so you can put any concerns you might have about reliable snow conditions to rest. There’s snow aplenty - with an occasional helping hand provided by modern technology. And if the weather happens not to cooperate during the winter months, that's no trouble at all. There are plenty of other activities to engage in, in and around Grossarltal, even when it rains. In heavy snowfall, about 98% of accommodations in the valley are accessible without snow chains. That said, if you prefer a ski holiday that doesn't involve fitting snow chains, then that's clearly not an issue here either.

A perfect day of skiing & adventure

in Grossarltal

Are you ready for a fantastic day of skiing? Yes? In that case, let's get going!

After you've gone up and down your favorite slopes multiple times, you can pause to admire the Austrian mountains from our numerous "quiet spots" with amazing views, allowing mind & body a chance to unwind completely. Or surf the internet and check your emails thanks to free Wi-Fi throughout the ski area. Speaking of Wi-Fi: You can also download the free "Ski amadé Guide" app.

All freestylers and snowboarders will find themselves, sooner or later, at the Freestyle & Snowpark - conveniently located just below the Sonnenbahn mountain station. This “playground” for jibbers is a highlight for cool kids and teens - for rookies as well as for pros. The local freestyle professionals from the ski schools are happy to share their know-how and show you how to find your own personal style on the slopes and in the snowpark.

The second highlight for children at the ski resort is the "Funslope" kids' area. Here, they get to ride through tunnels and across the wave run. This unique opportunity on the ski slopes for children is, of course, also used by the ski schools for their more advanced students.

With all that action out there on the ski slopes of Grossarl, you are sure to get hungry and thirsty as well! By lunchtime at the latest, you should definitely stop by one of the ski huts in the ski area and treat yourself to a few local specialties. A great opportunity to recharge your batteries for the rest of your day of skiing. Of course, a full day on the pistes simply has to conclude with a healthy dose of high-spirited Après-ski, an art which Grossarl has most definitely raised to a state of perfection.

At the end of the day, you can view your personal skiing achievements with the help of the automated Skiline generator. Which lifts did you use, and how many vertical meters and kilometers did you manage to record?

All that's left for us to do now, is to wish you a restful night’s sleep. Needless to say, we hope your next ski vacation to Austria will bring you to us here in the Grossarltal region of Salzburg province!

Planning a family ski vacation

in Austria

In the Grossarltal and throughout Ski amadé, families only pay for a maximum of two children to ride the lifts – all winter long! Any additional children get to ski for free. Another family bonus: Have you ever heard of the 'Young Family Ticket'? You purchase this for the same price as a regular adult ski pass, but now parents can take turns skiing. While one parent hits the slopes, the other can take care of the toddler (up to two years of age).

With the Junior Weekend Discount, children and teenagers enjoy particularly low-priced ski passes on weekends. This is naturally a major benefit for all families planning a short ski vacation over the weekend. The annual highlight, however, is the Easter Family Special, with all children up to the age of 15 receiving a free ski pass when at least one parent purchases a pass of their own for the same period.

These incomparable children's offers in Grossarltal are only surpassed by the “Kinder-Schmankerlbonus”. Children up to the age of 15 enjoy a kids' meal including a drink for a bargain low price at those ski huts indicated by a smiley.

Our local children's ski schools will teach your youngsters their first turns with great kindness, fun, and games, turning them into confident skiers faster than mom and dad ever expected. At the Kunterbunt Kids' Club, they offer a comprehensive children's program – including, of course, all-day childcare with lunch – and led by trained childcare professionals. The popular Fischbacher play hill is located in the valley right next to Hotel Kristall. Perfect for learning to ski! You’ll encounter the more experienced young skiers, meanwhile, in the Grossarl Snowpark as well as on the KinderLand Funslope!

We are, of course, happy to help you find ideal accommodations for your family ski vacation in Salzburger Land!
