Rhododendron Weeks

June 15th - 29th, 2024

In early summer, Grossarltal shows itself from its most beautiful side: The last snow patches on the mountains melt, and the sun finally drives away the stubborn remnants of the past winter.

The flora and world of flowers awaken. First, the twinbells and crocuses bloom, daringly stretching their heads up through the last snow cover into the sunlight. Soon after, gentians and cowbells follow. Finally, from mid-June, the rhododendrons transform the alpine meadows into a carpet of pink.

Rhododendron Time in Grossarltal

Experience this reawakening of nature during Rhododendron Weeks from mid-June to mid-July in Grossarltal and enjoy the vivid play of color during early summer.

During this time, the farmers in the Valley of Mountain Huts reopen their huts. The dairy farmers and the cattle eagerly await the day when they can turn their backs on the valley and move into their summer quarters on the alp. Then, the hikers are also drawn back to those glorious alpine pastures and mountains.

Particularly popular during this time of year: guided Alpine Flower Hikes with BERG-GESUND.

“Mountains in Flames” is undoubtedly the highlight during Rhododendron Weeks. In good weather, several hundred bonfires will illuminate the peaks and ridges of the Hohe Tauern range – this is how Grossarltal welcomes the summer.
